Who are the subjects? Here is an attempt to identify them.

By blowing up the photo it would appear that the woman second from the Left is clearly the oldest, by far, more than likely Eleanor, and on closer inspection it is not too hard to perceive that she is possibly pregnant.

For the young lady on her right (who is clearly maturing) to be…

  • Notes
    • Dorothy McBEAN (nee EAMER) says 22.10.2005:
As I was growing up, my understanding was that Aunt Carrie's husband was Jim Smith, the owner or manager of a pastoral property in the Murchison north of Meekatharra, and that she lived in Mount Lawley so that her three children could be educated in the metropolitan area.

The first time the name DWYER entered the picture was when ROSE (nee HEAD), Raymond Smith's widow, saw fit to place his funeral notice in the paper under the name RAYMOND DWYER instead of RAYMOND SMITH. People who could have been expected to know what would have prompted her to do that remained silent, and the rest of us like Bill and myself were left to speculate. The best we could come up with was the theory that DWYER and SMITH were one and the same person, the name change being made to cover up some indiscretion in DWYER'S past.

We will probably never know whether my three cousins were DWYERS or SMITHS, but I do know that Josie married KEVIN MCKENNA (an accountant) Nancy married JIM LEWIS (a station manager in the Murchison area of WA) and Raymond married ROSE HEAD.

Bill (my husband) tells me that when he was reading the library book he copied from, after looking for a reference to Pop Eamer he came across numerous references to JIM SMITH as owning or managing a station near Meeka and he took it that the JIM SMITH mentioned was Aunt Carrie's husband.
