    • First one to establish himself in the WEST, just prior to 1900. Owned the first motor vehicle in Meekatharra.

      Arthur Alexander SPENCER came to Albany by ship with dray and horses aboard. Drove from Albany up to Cue (West Aust) with wife Margaret and babies Gertrude SPENCER and Arthur Wilfred SPENCER.

      Arthur Alexander SPENCER was a very hard working man. Tried everything from mining to delivery of all types of goods from one country town to another. Tried farming but hit by drought. Lost cattle and sheep through bad seasons. Came to Perth and started up a iron scrap yard, corner of Wellington and Peir Sts. From there on he started to come good. Arthur Spencer built factories and shops in East Perth, Victoria Park, A1bany Road.

      Owned several trotters and racehorses. Won several cups with a horse called Manolive.
