- No record of marriage of BERRY to EAMER in SA, but the births of all children are registered under James EAMER / Eliza BERRY.
It appears Eliza married a Daniel BALCOMB on 02.08.1881 (45 widow) at the residence of Mr Martinus in Port Pirie, following the death of James EAMER in 1868.
At James death the youngest Arthur was just 2yrs, Sarah Anne was 5yrs, Walter 8yrs and Alfred, the eldest 9yrs. Arthur died two months after his father leaving Eliza with 3 children between 5 and 9.
Eliza is recorded on her marriage certificate to Daniel BALCOMB as Eliza EMOUR. She became Eliza BALCOMB after this point.
It is interesting to note that Walter's death certificate records his mothers name as Ethel BALCOMB and his father as John EAMER.
It is also interesting that Walter's sister Sarah Anne was married 28.05.1888 (25yrs) at the residence of Mrs BALCOMB, Parkside, SA. Sarah was 18yrs when her mother remarried.
Eliza BALCOMB died 13.01.07 in Hospital, 69 yrs - last residence being Nailsworth, Adelaide SA

In the "Biographical Index Of South Australians - 1836 to 1855" [S.O.G Ref: Aua/ SA/ G10] on Page 118, top of page first column, is this reference:- "BERRY Andrew b: c1816 d: 9.1.1852 Adelaide Sa. arr. 1838 occ: Farmer, Clerk res: Adelaide, Burra rel: Prot. m: 27.12.1843 Glasgow LKS SCT Eliz Emma Helen nee: FORREST par: Mowbray STENHOUSE and Whma nee: FORREST b: c1817 Edinburgh MID SCT ch: John Andrew [1848]". Is this "our" Eliza[beth] BERRY. As Andrew died in January 1852 and the first child of James & Eliza[beth] was born 1859, it may well be.19.10 2004: See entry below from Jo HARRIS. Now we know Eliza[beth]'s father was John BERRY looked again at this book and again on Page 118 are listed several references to John BERRY's - is one of them Eliza's father!?
James received his Conditional Pardon in May 1856 and arrived South Australia June 1857 and he may well have met up with Eliza[beth] soon after his arrival. The couple did set up home in the Adelaide area. The marriage of Andrew & Eliz Emma took place in Scotland but differing information from two of our Australian cousins, inform me that she was either "a jolly red-headed Irish Nurse" or "a little red-headed English Nurse", conflicting reports, but either way I have not as yet been able to trace Eliza[beth] and neither have helpful researchers in Australia. Maud Thomas, who has written her family history for her family, was informed that James common-law-wife was Ethel BALCOMBE, this from another branch of the EAMER family, but having purchased myself the Birth & Death Certificates of Eliza[beth] and James's son Arthur and the Birth Certificate of son Walter, it shows that the mothers name was Eliza or Elizabeth formerly BERRY. I still wonder if James & Eliza[beth] did infact marry one another, especially as the Certificates state "formerly BERRY". It was known that these marriages did infact take place even though former wives or husbands may have been left in the homelands that convicts knew they would never return to. Researching so far has not revealed a marriage. [Entered 12.10.2001].
HOORAY!!! Met Jo HARRIS from Sydney, Australia at the S.O.G. on the 19th August 2004 - she was over in England for five months researching her F.H. - visiting R.O.'s and places where her ancestors lived. I spoke to her about my problem in finding information on Eliza and she said she would try and help. I sent her an E Mail on the 29th September when I knew she would be back in Australia. I received a reply on the 1st October - TWO days later with the most wonderful info on Eliza - so much info in such a short space of time, I was over the moon. This information I have now entered. Eliza was the daughter of John BERRY. The BALCOMBE has been solved - Eliza[beth] married a Daniel BALCOMB. [Entered 19.10.2004].
Marriage Cert. sent for from Australia. Registrar's date 1.11.2004 / Daniel BALCOMB = Eliza EAMOUR. [In Green Folder].
13/1/2006: Message on GenesReunited from Bill EDWARDS, Australia. [E Mail address: barned2@dodo.com.au]. Info re the Message I put on GenesReunited the day before asking for help with the BERRY lineage. Already have info he sent but gave me a Website to check for Convicts in Australia i.e. : www.genseek.net/cons.htm. I went on this excellent Website and found James EAMER & Henry NASH and printed off details [In EAMOUR File]. I looked for Eliza[beth] BERRY and on the VICTORIA INFO I found VPRS 10879 PO ALPHA INDEX TO CENTRAL REGISTER OF FEMALE PRISONERS [VA 1464] PENAL AND GAOLS BRANCH, CHIEF SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT / Unit 1 [1857 - 1887] 218 Images - which are photostated from the actual Register and under the following Image 7 found this entry although the BEARY is suspect, the "R" could be "S"!:-BEARY Elizabeth Register No. 332 / No. of Register 1 / Page 332.The Register is in the Reading Rooms of the Public Record Office Victoria. Ref: VPRS 516/P1 Central Register Of Female Prisoners. As the entry is in Register 1 [started 1857] this well could be our Eliza[beth]!!14/1/2006: Another Message from Bill EDWARDS giving info on Sarah Ann EAMER [see under Sarah]. Sarah's daughter Myrtle was married at the Methodist MANSE Church in Alberton, Port Adelaide, S.A. - so was Eliza[beth] BERRY of Scottish descent and not Irish!! Manse in the dictionary states: "in Scotland, minister's house". [1]
