The Magill Old Folks Home was established in 1917 following long term problems with the existing agencies which cared for the elderly and the infirm. These problems ran back to the nineteenth century and had been known of and the need for solutions discussed for nearly twenty years prior to the opening of the home. In 1988, following negotiations with staff of the Magill Home and the South Australian Housing Trust, agreement was reached to sell the Magill Home site to the Trust for Housing and Unit development. The proceeds were used to construct a new nursing home and hostel units in Tregenza Avenue, Elizabeth South. Residents moved into the new quarters on the 17 October 1989. The new service, named Tregenza Avenue Aged Care Service, comprises 30 nursing home beds, 40 hostel units, a day care centre and a further 40 beds provided in existing housing within the region. The service was officially opened by the South Australian Health Commission Chairman, Dr WT McCoy, on 21 January 1989.
